Does Instagram Notify Someone When You View Their Profile or Story?

Published 5 min read

Screenshots, profile visits, story views — we break down exactly what Instagram reveals to other users and what stays private.

01Profile visits are never revealed

Instagram does not notify anyone when you visit their profile, and there is no feature that shows profile visitors. People with professional dashboards only see aggregated counts — never names.

Any app advertising 'see who viewed your profile' is fabricating data.

02Story views are fully visible

Every story view is logged with your username, and the author can scroll the exact list of viewers for 48 hours. This is the one place where browsing leaves a fingerprint — unless you watch through an anonymous viewer like Inco IG, where the view is never attached to your account.

03Screenshots are silent (with one exception)

Instagram does not send notifications for screenshots of stories, reels, posts or profiles. The only exception is disappearing photos and videos sent in DMs with 'view once' mode — full rules in our screenshot guide.

04The safest checklist

Use a web-based viewer for stories, never hand your password to third-party apps, browse profiles from a browser tab, and remember that likes, comments and follows are always visible.

Put it into practice

Everything in this guide works right now — watch any public story, highlight or profile anonymously with the Inco IGviewer.
